Arsene Wenger has given an update Mesut Ozil’s fitness, saying the Arsenal player should return to training “today or tomorrow”.

The German missed last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea due to a knee injury and has been training away from the main group. Speaking in his pre-West Brom press conference, Wenger said he expects Ozil to return to full team training either today or tomorrow.

Ozil had a full pre-season with Arsenal and played 90 minutes in each of Arsenal’s first three league games of the season against Leicester, Stoke and Liverpool. He also played against Bournemouth, but was left out of the Europa League game against Cologne as Wenger rotated his squad.

It seems to me that Ozil picked up the knock during the week before the Chelsea game. Despite the importance of that game, he wasn’t risked and was left out of the squad entirely. Should he return to training as expected, I believe he should be ready in time for the visit of West Brom on Monday.

Ozil is often one of Arsenal’s most-used players. Despite the amount of running he does during games, he’s rarely subbed off or rested.
