Speaking after the win over Bournemouth, Arsène Wenger had a lot of praise for Danny Welbeck, who scored two and also assisted one in the 3-0 win.

Wenger was asked about Danny in his post-match press conference, and he told reporters: “He gets stronger and stronger. Let’s not forget that he was out for a long time. He gets stronger and stronger. He’s a team player, Danny Welbeck, and that’s why coaches love him.

“He’s a guy who has a huge physical potential. People are not convinced that he is a great finisher, but these kinds of goals will help him become more relaxed in front of goal. I liked his second goal today because it was the clean finish of a goalscorer.” via Arsenal.com

There’s no doubt amongst the Arsenal fanbase that Welbeck always works hard for the team, and even against Liverpool he was one of few who seemed to be trying.

However, as Wenger points out, the questions around Danny’s performances are almost always about his finishing. Three goals in four league games this season so far seems like a very good return, but against Stoke and Liverpool Welbeck was guilty of wastefulness, and it was important to change that against Bournemouth.

The pressure was on the England international after his surprise inclusion at the expense of Alexis Sanchez. Realistically, the decision to play Danny made sense, Welbeck played better at Anfield than Alexis, then scored on international duty whilst Alexis struggled in two full matches with Chile.

But that didn’t stop people asking questions, and fortunately on this occasion the former Manchester United forward had the answers.

Though there was an element of luck with the first goal, the second was a quality finish, and his assist was the cherry on top.

Overall just what he, and Arsenal, needed.
