Arsene Wenger insists that he’s confident Alexis Sanchez will give ‘100%’ for Arsenal this season.

Wenger claims he has ‘no doubt’ that Alexis will give 100% this season despite the Chilean quite obviously not wanting to be at Arsenal anymore.

“(He’ll be) 100 per cent (committed). I have no doubt about that,” Wenger told beIN Sports.

“When you decide to let a player of that calibre go, you need to replace him because nobody would understand if you let the player go.

“When you cannot do it then you must keep the player and make a financial sacrifice because you want a team who has good potential and top quality.”

Despite being linked with Manchester City all summer, Pep Guardiola’s side only decided to make a move for Alexis the day before the transfer window shut which, predictably, didn’t give Arsenal a great deal of time to find a replacement.

While the Gunners were said to have had an offer of around £92m accepted by Monaco for Thomas Lemar, the 21-year-old was in action for France, which apparently imposed time constraints that the club, in the year 2017, couldn’t get around.

As a result, Alexis stays in north London even though he’s got less than a year left on his current deal and quite clearly doesn’t want to be at Arsenal anymore.

While the 28-year-old was far from fit when he featured in his first Premier League game of the season against Liverpool last Sunday, his body language and attitude seemed a little off. Hopefully Wenger’s right and Alexis will remain professional this season. Perhaps he won’t act as if Wenger and Steve Bould have kidnapped him. Perhaps he might even have a decent season…

Perhaps.
