Nacho Monreal’s good form with Arsenal at the moment is summed up by the fact he’s made more clearances, interceptions and tackles than anyone else this season.

Those stats come courtesy of Squawka, who tweeted out the numbers after Nacho’s impressive defensive display against West Bromwich Albion on Monday.

Of course, Monreal has the benefit of having played every minute of Arsenal’s Premier League campaign this season, a situation not shared by many others in the first-team. Nonetheless the defender’s involvement for the Gunners has been influential in the last few games especially.

Six of the Spaniard’s 15 league interceptions came in the last match against West Brom. If you add up all the interceptions that every other Arsenal player made on the night, it comes to the same number, six.

Cutting out as many passes as the combined efforts of 13 other players isn’t a bad night’s work, but that’s before you even consider the goal-saving clearance, aerial duels and tackles won by the centre-back in the same game.

In my opinion, the 31-year-old doesn’t get the respect he deserves for being such a good servant to Arsenal. Perhaps now he will get the credit from the supporters that has been long overdue.
