Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has given an update on Instagram on his current fitness status as he returns from injury, 11 months after being originally sidelined.

Cazorla posted a video on Instagram showing his work in the rehabilitation centre towards a return that could be in early 2018. Arsenal haven’t named the Spanish playmaker in their 25-man Premier League squad this season, so he won’t play a part until at least January next year.

The 32-year-old last played for the Gunners in October 2016, helping thrash Ludogorets 6-0 in the Champions League. The midfielder fell injured in the 57th minute, which left many Arsenal fans wondering why he had been played at all, in a game he wasn’t needed for.

Up until that point, Cazorla had made 11 appearances in the Gunners’ first 12 games in all competitions, despite his injury problems in the prior campaign, having spent half of the 2015/16 season out with injury.

Overplaying him has cost the Gunners ever since, in my opinion, with none of the replacements living up to the 32-year-old’s influence in the key moments. However hard the Spaniard is working and training, Arsenal unfortunately have to make do without him.
