Former Bayern Munich chief Matthias Sammer has hailed rumoured Arsenal and Tottenham target, Maximilian Philipp.

Arsenal and Spurs have both been linked with Borussia Dortmund winger, Maximilian Philipp. And it seems that the two north London sides aren’t the only ones who rate the 23-year-old as Sammer also had high praise for Philipp recently.

“Just wow! For the way he has adapted to a new club at such speed. He plays very, very creatively. He is intelligent and cautious. He is also very easy on his feet,” Sammer gushed to BILD.

“This all works very nicely, is wonderful to look at. But what I have noticed for some time, that he is very disciplined, is integrated into the system. These are clean characters that are very, very important to a team. To date, a perfect match.”

Philipp has made nine appearances for Dortmund so far this season, scoring four goals in that time; two braces against FC Cologne and Borussia Mönchengladbach.

However, the Germany u21 international only signed for Dortmund from Freiburg in June and is therefore contracted with the Bundesliga side until 2022. It would be a little unusual for Dortmund to spend €20m (plus bonuses) on a player and then sell him within the year, especially when he’s doing so well.

Saying this, another left winger would be nice considering Arsenal are yet to find a replacement for Alexis Sanchez, who’s set to leave at the end of the season.

Philipp came through the ranks at Freiburg but also had spells at Energie Cottbus, Tennis Borussia Berlin and Hertha BSC in his youth.

It’s clear that Sammer, who played for Dortmund between 1993 – 1999, rates Philipp and by the sound of it he’s obviously a talented player with a bright future.
