Martin Keown says that Oxlade-Chamberlain needs to deliver at Liverpool now after forcing through a £40m move to the Merseyside club.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Keown clearly outlined that he thinks Ox needs to improve, and that he now has no reason not to do so. Keown said in his article: “I can see him playing in midfield instead of Can or Wijnaldum — but I am intrigued to see if Jurgen Klopp can make him the complete player.

“It is no longer about promise with Oxlade-Chamberlain — it’s all about end product. It was interesting watching him for England in the last two games. Whenever he had the ball, he kept trying to do the impossible.

“We have only ever seen 80 per cent of what Oxlade-Chamberlain is capable of. Now, he has no excuse but to deliver.”

We’ll have to see if Ox is thrown straight into the action for Liverpool’s early kick-off against Manchester City on Saturday, and if he’s playing in the central role that he reportedly so desires. With Lallana still out he has more of a chance but realistically Ox’s recent form has been nowhere near the rest of Klopp’s midfield options.

Keown is right to point out Chamberlain’s performances for England, and he wasn’t the only one to note how badly the midfielder played, but this was no different from Alex’s final matches for Arsenal, where he was wasteful and disappointing.

Everyone should know by now how much Ox needs to improve his end product, with only nine Premier League goals in six years with the Gunners. As Keown says, there are no more excuses now, the 24-year-old is at the right age and has been given the right opportunities to make a name for himself, now is the time to do so.
