When Alexandre Lacazette scored in the 3-0 victory over Bournemouth, he wrote his name in Arsenal history.

The strike saw the Frenchman become just the second player in the club’s history to have scored in his first two home games.

While iconic Gunners failure Marouane Chamakh is the only other player to have achieved that feat, there aren’t many who feel Lacazette’s Arsenal career is going to mirror that of the Moroccan. With two Premier League goals from his first four games, the summer signing has made an impressive start to life in North London, and there is a real belief Lacazette could be that 20-goal-a-season striker Arsenal have been looking for for years.

Signed in the summer for a club-record fee of £52 million from Ligue 1 side Lyon, the 26-year old arrived in England with a prolific record in France. The forward, who scored 20-plus league goals for three seasons in a row, moved to Arsenal on the back of a sensational year in which he registered 37 goals in all competitions. Viewed as one of European football’s most clinical finishers, a host of clubs were interested in signing Lacazette in the summer. In a somewhat surprising show of ambition, Arsene Wenger broke Arsenal’s transfer record in order to add the striker to his squad, somewhat helped by Atletico Madrid – who were also keen – being handed a transfer ban.

While Arsenal fans were hoping to see a couple of other world class signings, Lacazette’s early-season form has been some consolation after a disappointing opening month. The hope now is that the France international can go on a scoring streak and help Arsenal get back on track after an inconsistent start to the season. When planning your next footy accumulators, it could be worth also finding out the odds of Lacazette going on scoring run now, with Wenger highly unlikely to try and drop the in-form striker following the reaction of starting the Frenchman on the bench in the 4-0 hammering at Liverpool.

With Alexis Sanchez seemingly set to leave the club, possibly as early as January, having another player in the squad scoring on a regular basis could be the difference between Arsenal still being in contention at the start of 2018. And if Sanchez is on his way out, still being in and around the top four could also play a massive part in Arsenal being able to replace the Chilean with someone capable of filling the gap. There is also the small chance the South American decides to sign a new contract, something that is much more likely if the Gunners are challenging for the title and another player is weighing in with goals.

One of the reasons Sanchez is looking to leave the Emirates has been the amount the team relies on him for goals and assists. While we might be some way away from being able to claim Lacazette has the potential to be as good a player as Sanchez, the Frenchman definitely looks as though he’ll be able to take away the worry that if the Chilean leaves then so do the majority of the team’s goals.
