Alexandre Lacazette has claimed that nobody is hungrier than him to win the Europa League.

The French striker is eager to reach the final of this year’s competition, which is being hosted at Lyon’s Groupama Stadium.

“This year I want to go further and reach the final, which is in Lyon,” Lacazette said, as reported by The Daily Star.

“I’m the player who is the hungriest to win it, because playing in the final in front of my friends and family would be great. Having said that, we can’t think too far ahead.

“We should think about our match this week and take it game by game.

“It’s a good test because it’s a European competition, although we do want to play in the Champions League.

“It’s what we have to do this season. We have to win it. That’s our target and it would be another trophy for the club. That would be good for this season.”

There are, of course, numerous reasons for Arsenal to try and win the Europa League this season.

It’d be the club’s first European trophy in a long time, and would give Arsenal a route back into the Champions League should they be unable to qualify through the league again.

Lacazette came close to the final last season, scoring six goals on the way to the semi-final, where his Lyon team were eliminated by Ajax.

He’s likely to be left out of Arsenal’s group games this season, but could return for the knockout rounds provided Arsenal qualify.

Arsenal got off to a good start after defeating Cologne 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium last night.

The performance left a lot to be desired, but an early three points has already put Arsenal in charge of the group.

Their next game is in Belarus against BATE Borisov on September 28th.
