Inter Milan are reportedly interested in signing Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez, with Manchester United and Arsenal also interested.

Inter made a late move for Arsenal’s Shkodran Mustafi and seem to be in the market for a centre-back. However, thanks to Atletico’s transfer ban, there was little chance of Gimenez moving in the summer, as the Spanish club wouldn’t have been able to replace him.

According to talkSPORT, Inter are therefore looking to make a move for the 22-year-old in January. The Uruguayan is believed to have a £60m release clause, but with a year left on his current deal, he could leave the Vicente Calderon for nothing.

If Arsenal are interested in the centre-back, they need to make a move before Inter or United do. But the situation could also present an opportunity for the Gunners. If they want to offload Mustafi, Inter may take him off their hands, leaving Arsenal to sign Gimenez.

But if the London club want to go up against the likes of Juventus, Manchester United and Roma for the player, they should probably start by improving results on the field and making North London into an attractive destination again.

Sitting 16th in the Premier League with just three points from as many games won’t be too appealing for a player challenging for the La Liga title.
