Thierry Henry says Arsenal have to maintain the same level of performance in future games, after they held defending champions Chelsea to a draw at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal made a significant improvement on their last away game of the new Premier League campaign, turning a 4-0 loss into a 0-0 draw. Although the Gunners still didn’t manage to get the win, they were unlucky not to get it, rather than the other way around, I feel.

Henry told Sky Sports that the Gunners had no option but to improve, and put in a very good performance on the day. He said: “It wasn’t difficult to be better than what they were at Liverpool. That was the standard for me for what you’ve got to do away from home,” reports the Express.

“When you are away from home, whether you play the champions or not, you need to be careful of what’s going to happen. Everything was better today.

“We got back to the same thing, they’re still looking for their first goal away from home, and they still didn’t win away from home, but that was way better from what we saw against Liverpool.”

In my opinion, it would have been difficult to be worse against Chelsea after their Liverpool defeat. There aren’t many performances in recent times that were as pathetic as that game at Anfield. Even games like the 6-0 loss to Chelsea in 2014 at least had the early red card as an excuse.

But even removing the Anfield performance from the situation and just looking at how the Gunners have performed in big away games in general in recent years, this match at Stamford Bridge was still an improvement.

When Arsenal play the likes of Bournemouth, I feel fans want to see the Gunners win big whilst playing attractive football. But when they play Chelsea or Liverpool away, I don’t recall ever hearing a fan complain that the football wasn’t attractive enough.

In the big away games, supporters just want to feel proud that their team put the effort it, and hopefully got a result I feel.

If Arsenal can start to get this mix right, and the match at Stamford Bridge wasn’t just another one-off like the 2-0 win away to Manchester City in 2015, it’ll help the team achieve something this season.
