Chelsea winger Eden Hazard has admitted that his solo goal against Arsenal last season was “lucky” to go in.

The goal was scored during Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge last season. While some may remember it for demonstrating Hazard’s wide range of skills and great ability, Arsenal fans will recall the hilariously bad defending that let the Belgian close to our goal in the first place.

Francis Coquelin’s attempt to win the ball back resulted in him being rag-dolled and felled, while Laurent Koscielny waited for Hazard to get a shot off before bothering to make a tackle. It was that shot that Hazard thinks was a bit fortunate to go in.

“One of my favourite goals is against Arsenal, it was a massive game,” Hazard said, reports the Mirror. “We lost the first game 3-0 at Arsenal, we needed the revenge, we done well, we won 3-1.

“I tried to bring the ball forward. I dribbled some players and then I just tried to finish. I was a bit lucky in the end with the finish, but the most important thing is that the ball went in.”

Hazard didn’t make the cleanest of contacts with the ball, and ended up bouncing it in over Petr Cech’s outstretched leg. Fortunate as it was, Chelsea were the much better team on the day and would have won comfortably regardless.

Hazard missed the the last two games Chelsea have played against Arsenal due to an ankle injury, but will no doubt be fit and firing again by the time Arsenal visit Stamford Bridge.
