Former Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has been linked with a return to the Emirates Stadium, and supporters took to social media to give their mostly positive reactions.

Arsenal were being linked with their former defender in the Express. According to the report, the Gunners could bring Sagna back on a free transfer after he was released by Manchester City in the summer.

Although Sagna left Arsenal for a rival club in 2014, the fact he moved on at the end of his contract softened the blow a bit. Judging by the reaction to the news, most fans still remember the Frenchman as a reliable performer and wouldn’t mind him coming back.

Sagna is now 34 and nowhere near the dynamic full-back he used to be. When he first joined Arsenal from Auxerre in 2007, he gained a reputation for being a defensively solid defender with the pace to match the league’s best wingers.

He also filled in admirably well as a centre-back over the years. The veteran left Arsenal after winning the FA Cup in 2014 to join Manchester City. He shared game time with Pablo Zabaleta before being realised last summer.

Not every fan was delighted to hear he might return, however.

Currently without a club, he’s been linked with Torino, Manchester United and Chelsea, as well as Arsenal.
