Arsenal and France defender was included in the 42-man Europa League squad, much to the surprise of everybody given he’s been frozen out of the first-team under manager Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal named a 42-man squad for the Europa League yesterday, and amongst all the first team-players and youngsters, one name stood out: Mathieu Debuchy. The French fullback has been an Arsenal player for three years, but due to a series of injuries he’s only been relevant for about one of them.

The Gunners have allowed him to leave many times, but each time he’s managed to turn down a move elsewhere and remain as an Arsenal player. It seems that Arsene Wenger may now end up using him, as the manager plans to rotate the squad for the Europa League.

Needless to say, the fans were surprised to see his name on the squad list.

Debuchy is the only other senior right-back in the squad, which further increases his chances of getting a game. Perhaps the odd game here and there might help convince other clubs that he’s worth forking out some money for.

The 32-year-old earns a decent amount of money at Arsenal for essentially doing nothing, so maybe now is the time to put him to work.
