Calum Chambers looks set to start against Doncaster Rovers this evening, and Arsenal fans are excited to see the former Southampton defender return to the team.

Chambers spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, and after some speculation this summer that he might leave, he ended up staying, only to pick up an injury that kept him out at the start of the season.

In his only appearance in pre-season, Chambers looked confident and assured, in my opinion, helping to steady the defence after coming on in the second half against Benfica. The Gunners had conceded two before half time, but after the 22-year-old’s introduction the goals for Benfica dried up and Arsenal scored three to win 5-2.

Supporters are clearly hoping for more of the same now he’s back, and after Wenger confirmed Chambers would play a part against Doncaster, fans started to get excited:

Despite getting relegated last season, Middlesbrough conceded fewer goals than any side in the bottom-half of the Premier League table. Boro had a nightmare trying to score goals, but defensively they were pretty solid, and Chambers played his part in that.

If he can bring that solidity to Arsenal for tonight’s League Cup meeting, the Gunners should book their place in the fourth round with consummate ease.
