Arsenal defender Calum Chambers will be out of action for a number of weeks after picking up a hip injury in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup victory over Doncaster Rovers.

Arsene Wenger confirmed in Thursday’s press conference that the English defender is likely to miss out until after the international break while he recovers from injury.

It’s a big blow for Chambers given he’d only recently come back into the first-team after being on the subsidiary all season until now. But spending just a few weeks on the sidelines is the best of a bad situation and I believe he will be hoping to put himself back in contention when he returns.

Arsenal came close to selling Chambers over the summer, with Crystal Palace one of the sides reportedly keen on his signature. The Eagles had a lofty bid rejected by the Gunners, who made a U-turn on their decision to let him go, but opportunities with the first-team hadn’t come their way since.

Supporters revealed their delight to see the once-promising former Southampton man back in an Arsenal shirt, but his injury against Doncaster was another setback. His return will be eagerly anticipated.

But for now, Arsenal will have the likes of Rob Holding as an option in the defence, along with the likes of Laurent Koscielny, Shkodran Mustafi, Per Mertesacker, and versatile full-backs Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac.
