Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal’s Mesut Özil, as well as Manchester United’s Ander Herrera, on free transfers at the end of the season.

According to the Daily Star, Barcelona are interested in the Premier League duo, knowing that they can negotiate with both in January if neither player signs a new contract with their current club. Herrera, like Özil, has a contract expiring at the end of the campaign.

Özil stated on Sky Sports that he would be willing to sign a new deal with Arsenal, although later reports have suggested he will leave the club at the end of his contract next summer.

An offer from one of the biggest clubs in world football is likely to turn a few heads. In my opinion, you’d think a Barcelona offer would be more likely to draw interest from Spaniard Ander Herrera, especially given Özil’s Real Madrid affiliations, but in the current market you never know.

Manchester United have reportedly shown interest in the 28-year-old Arsenal man in the past few days, so a move to Barcelona would definitely be preferable to Gunners fans.

However, losing your best player on a free isn’t a nice thought to entertain. Hopefully Arsenal will revive contract negotiations soon.
