Arsenal face BATE Borisov in Belarus on Thursday night for their second Europa League clash of the campaign.

After beating FC Cologne 3-1 in their previous European tie, it’s likely that Arsene Wenger will take a similar team – one that’s a little different to Monday night’s starting XI against West Brom.

In fact, the manager’s starting line-up against Borisov will probably be more similar to the one that faced Doncaster Rovers in the League Cup if the XI that faced Cologne is anything to go by.

A win is the only option. Doing well in the Europa League this season is the least we should be doing and if we can’t beat a team from the Belarusian Premier League, then we have big problems.

Hopefully our young guns will put in a better performance than their display against Donny, which only just ended 1-0 to Arsenal.

Team news

A lot of young players have trained and traveled to Belarus with the squad, including 18-year-old Vlad Dragomir and Charlie Gilmour.

Santi Cazorla (ankle), Francis Coquelin (hamstring) and Danny Welbeck (groin) are all sidelined so obviously won’t travel… unless they fancy a cheeky holiday… as are Calum Chambers (hip) and Alex Iwobi (thigh).

Chuba Akpom has been selected to travel, as have the likes of Jack Wilshere, Mohamed Elneny and Theo Walcott who all featured in the FC Cologne tie.

Mesut Ozil, Sead Kolasinac and Laurent Koscielny were all apparently rested from Wednesday’s training session.

Possible starting XI: Ospina, Holding, Mertesacker, Monreal, Bellerin, Elneny, Wilshere, Maitland-Niles, Walcott, Giroud, Alexis.

Opposition

While Arsenal should be beating Borisov with ease, the Belarusian team are undefeated in their last six games and have only drawn one of those.

It’s hard to tell how either team will fare because Arsenal and Borisov have never faced each other before.

However, if you follow the latest football accumulator tips, you may get an idea of how the Gunners will stack up at the Borisov Arena.

They’ve won their Premier League 13 times, including last year, and have qualified for the Champions League five times. The last was in 2015/16.

Predicted BATE Borisov starting XI: Scherbitshi; Rios, Gayduchik, Milunovic, Polyakov, Volodko; Gordeychuk, Ivanic, Stasevich; Rodionov.
