Arsenal were reportedly interested in Thomas Müller over the summer, and plan to go back in for the forward in January amid uncertainty about the German’s future.

The Mirror report that Arsenal see Müller as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez, who is set to depart the Gunners in one of the next two windows unless he performs a u-turn and signs a new deal before then.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Juventus are also interested in the World Cup winner, so Arsenal face a lot of competition for the player. Of course, the main disadvantage for the Gunners at the moment is the lack of Champions League football, but in a year’s time that will hopefully not be the case. So then it will just come down to whether the Arsenal project is sufficiently attractive to Müller.

Last season Müller had a bit of disappointing campaign, just scoring five league goals. His form picked up in the second half of the season, with 9 of his 14 assists coming after the midway point.

However, after being dropped to the bench for Bayern’s second game of the season, this clearly hasn’t entirely convinced the club to keep playing him.

If he wants to keep winning trophies, Müller can happily stay in Munich, sitting on the bench or not. But if he wants a new challenge, Arsenal could do worse than to throw their name into the hat.
