Arsenal’s u23s defeated Leicester 1-0 on Friday night thanks to an own goal.

Arsenal’s u23 side resumed their Premier League 2 season last night with a hard-earned win over a plucky Leicester team.

Arsenal lined-up with a back three that included Calum Chambers, making his first appearance of the season after recovering from a thigh injury, and Julio Pleguezuelo, who captained the side.

Joe Willock and Jeff Reine-Adelaide formed a very offensive central midfield, while Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah and Chuba Akpom formed the front three despite their involvement in Thursday’s Europa League game.

The only goal of the game came from right wing-back Jordi Osei-Tutu’s cross being turned into his own goal by a Leicester defender. It was otherwise a hard-fought game, with Leicester adopting an unusually aggressive approach.

Arsenal managed to keep their clean sheet thanks to a late save from keeper Matt Macey and an excellent performance from the returning Chambers. The 22-year-old played 73 valuable minutes before he was subbed off and now has a chance to feature in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

According to Jeorge Bird’s report, the game was also notable for a group of Cologne fans turning up to support Leicester.

Perhaps we can get a few of them to turn up to the Doncaster game next week as well.

The u23s travel to Southport at the end of the month to play Everton.

Before then, a number of players, such as Nelson, Nketiah, Willock and Reine-Adelaide, will be hoping to be involved in the Carabao Cup in mid-week.
