Arsenal are reportedly targeting Olympique Marseille left-back Christopher Rocchia in a January swoop, after a recommendation from the club scout.

The 19-year-old has been attracting the interest of Arsenal after impressing our French scout, Giles Grimandi. According to talkSPORT, Arsenal could make an offer for the left-back in January.

Rocchia is out of contract in the summer and Marseille are still trying to tie him down to a new three-year-deal. That could give Arsenal the opportunity to sign the youngster for a low price, I feel.

The teenager has yet to make his first-team debut for Marseille, but was part of the youth team that reached the final of last year’s Coupe Gambardella, France’s equivalent of the FA Youth Cup.

In my opinion, Arsenal do have room in the squad for another left back. While Sead Kolasinac seems first-choice, back-up option Nacho Monreal has been starting as a centre-back in Arsenal’s back three.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles, normally a midfielder, has found himself playing left wing-back whenever Arsenal have opted to rest Kolasinac and Monreal. At youth level, midfielder Josh Dasilva has been playing left wing-back.

As a result, I believe Arsenal could benefit from bringing in a natural full-back on the left to provide competition in the defence.
