Arsenal have reportedly started to make a move to sign Marseille left-back Christopher Rocchia in January, according to reports in France.

French outlet Foot Mercato report (via Metro) that Arsenal’s scout Gilles Grimandi is already in talks with Rocchia’s entourage about his potential availability in the winter window, as his contract is set to expire in 2018. Borussia Dortmund are the other club listed as interested.

Arsenal would do well to bring in a left-back in January, in my opinion. Arsène Wenger has clearly decided that Nacho Monreal is a centre-back option now, and that Kolašinac is a back up centre-back as well. That leaves only improvised options on the left when Kolašinac is unavailable.

Kieran Gibbs and Cohen Bramall were sold and loaned respectively over the summer break, so with Monreal being moved it was a surprise to see only one player come in to replace the trio.

Maitland-Niles had a good game against Doncaster Rovers, but left wing-back isn’t his position and a left-footed player like Rocchia, with a bit more experience in the position, would make a better alternative.

Plus, that would free Maitland-Niles up to play on the right.

Arsenal also only have improvised alternatives to Bellerín, unless you count Debuchy, which nobody seems to.

Ainsley has actually played right-back before, and got an assist in a game for the u23s on the right this season, so the position makes a lot more sense for him.
