Arsenal Women staged a wonderful comeback for their FA WSL season opener against Birmingham.

The Gunners lined up against Birmingham having won 4-2 at the Hive back in May. However,  it looked as if Arsenal were set to get off to the worst imaginable start to the new WSL season.

Former Gunner, Ellen White, put Birmingham ahead within 12 minutes at Meadow Park.

Jodie Taylor scored the second goal of the game in the 35th minute, putting Arsenal on level terms before half-time after being put through by new signing, Jessica Samuelsson.

White added a second goal to her tally on the hour mark and Birmingham did a good job of keeping Arsenal out until the 84th minute when some lovely link-up play between Lisa Evans and Taylor allowed Evans to slip through and score.

With just minutes left of the game, the Gunners were given a penalty after a Birmingham handball in the box.

Taylor took the spot-kick, making no mistake and firing it into the back of the net.

Within six minutes of regular time, Arsenal managed to flip the game on its head completely and nab three points for their first Women’s Super League match of the season.

The Gunners travel to Manchester City next Saturday.
