Arsenal have reportedly sent scouts to watch Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka, as the German international moves into the final year of his contract with the Bundesliga club.

Just like Sead Kolašinac last season, Leon Goretzka has almost reached the point where he can negotiate pre-contract agreements with other clubs, as Schalke have unfortunately managed to pull an Arsenal and let another star player’s contract run down.

According to the Mirror, one of Arsène Wenger’s scouts has attended the last few Bundesliga matches for the German side, keeping an eye on the player to establish whether he’s worth bidding on. However, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also interested, according to the report, so Arsenal can’t take too long deliberating.

Goretzka has scored one goal and provided one assist in seven matches so far this season, but the 22-year-old was most impressive at the Confederations Cup over the summer, where he scored three and added an assist in four appearances as Germany won the competition.

The midfielder is 6’2″ and combines that with an ability to jump well to be very good in the air, as well as having an eye for goal and an ability to play a pass. He could add a bit more of a physical presence and goal scoring threat to Arsenal’s midfield if he joined, I feel. It’s just about convincing him to do so if the scouts confirm that assessment.
