Arsenal’s Kelechi Nwakali scored for VVV-Venlo, while Lucas Perez returned for his former club and Takuma Asano also featured.

Nwakali came on as a 75th minute sub for VVV-Venlo and scored a late equaliser away to FC Groningen. It was his first appearance since joining on loan and the goal should be a nice confidence boost for him, reports Jeorge Bird.

Elsewhere in Europe, Lucas Perez made his triumphant return to Deportivo, coming on as a second half substitute against Real Sociedad. He occasionally threatened the Sociedad backline, but couldn’t prevent his team from going down to a 4-2 defeat.

Staying in Spain, Emi Martinez was an unused substitute yet again for Getafe while first choice keeper Vicente Guaita took the plaudits in a 2-1 win over Leganes. Joel Campbell wasn’t included in Real Betis’ squad as they lost 3-1 to Villarreal.

In Germany, Takuma Asano came on late for Stuttgart during a 3-1 defeat to Schalke. Stuttgart have had a difficult start to the season, losing two of their three games so far.

At home, none of our loanees played. Cohen Bramall and Stephy Mavididi were left out of the Birmingham and Preston squads respectively, while Marc Bola was an unused substitute for Bristol Rovers in their 1-1 draw with Walsall.

They may get a chance to play as these teams rotate ahead of a mid-week round of fixtures.
