Arsenal are working hard to ensure Alex Iwobi is fit for the Brighton game on Sunday, according to reports.

Iwobi missed both of Arsenal’s games this week due to a thigh injury but has a chance to be fit for Sunday’s game against Brighton.

According to Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr, Arsenal’s medical staff are working hard to ensure that Iwobi can play on Sunday and then, by extension, in Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier against Zambia.

“Alex has an injury, but Arsenal doctors are trying to make him fit for Sunday’s game (vs Brighton). So we are waiting for confirmation,” he said, as reported Score Nigeria.

With Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck unavailable, there’s an opportunity for a fit Iwobi to get some Premier League game time.

His selection in the 0-0 draw against Chelsea suggests that Arsene Wenger trusts him ahead of Theo Walcott and will play him when the chance arises.

Iwobi faces a big season after he was dropped from the side towards the end of the last campaign. He will need to take every opportunity that comes his way and his current injury won’t have helped him at all.

He is also needed by Nigeria, who can secure qualification for the World Cup in the summer with a win over Zambia next week.

However, defeat would leave the two nations level on points going into the final qualifier in November.
