Arsenal could reportedly try again for Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling in January, after having failed to agree a part-exchange deal in August.

During the summer transfer window, Arsenal tried to sign the Manchester City winger as part of a deal that would have seen Alexis Sanchez go the other way. However, City refused to let Sterling go, and would only pay cash for Alexis.

According to the Mirror, Arsenal could try a new approach for Sterling when the transfer window reopens in the new year. They report that Arsenal consider Sterling to be a top class replacement for Alexis Sanchez when the Chilean eventually leaves.

Alexis is, of course, out of contract in the summer and could try to convince Arsenal to let him go in January. It should be pointed out that City have little incentive to allow Sterling to leave, even if they do attempt to sign Alexis in January, With manager Pep Guardiola a big fan of the 22-year-old.

They’ll know that Alexis will be available on a free transfer in the summer and will simply keep hold of Sterling until then, in my opinion. From Arsenal’s perspective, you’d like they think they would prefer to keep Alexis for the remainder of the season than replace him with Sterling midway.
