Adrian Clarke thinks Arsène Wenger might already be regretting signing a new deal with Arsenal this summer.

Former Gunner Adrian Clarke told talkSPORT via the Express that he believes the criticism and calls to leave that Wenger is still receiving, despite just having signed a new deal, might make him wonder if staying on was the right idea.

Clarke explained: “I guess, Arsène Wenger, there is a part of him which thinks ‘maybe I should have quit’ based on the stick he’s getting at the moment. I’m not that surprised about it to be perfectly honest. I think he was genuinely considering whether to stay on or not.”

Clarke is still employed by the club to do ‘The Breakdown’ for Arsenal Player, so it’s surprising to hear him talk about Wenger with such honesty. However, the debate around Wenger’s future is now so widespread that it’s almost become more of a rarity to find someone who won’t talk about it.

As for whether Wenger regrets his decision, the Frenchman certainly will be considering his future if Arsenal have the same success in the next 35 league games that they’ve had in the first three. But it has been just three matches so far, there’s still plenty of time to turn things round.

Arsène Wenger, ever the optimist, will surely believe that he can help the team to do so. If the end of the season is as disappointing as the start has been, that’s when you start to wonder whether it’s time to say goodbye.
