After being sent off for Arsenal U23s in Monday’s 4-3 win over Manchester City, Jack Wilshere was unfazed by the incident and instead believes it’s proof of his “passion and hunger”.

Wilshere was playing in the U23s as he looked to return to full match sharpness after the injury he sustained late last season with Bournemouth. He was sent off in the second half following a brawl but didn’t seem worried by the event afterwards, reports Football.London.

He said in a post on Instagram: “My passion and my hunger is back, buzzing for more games”

The Arsenal midfielder was having a good game up until that point in the match, providing an assist for Eddie Nketiah and playing the through ball which Josh Da Silva cut back for Reiss Nelson’s second goal of the night. He certainly looked much closer to his former self than we’ve seen him recently.

The trouble was that the City players were growing increasingly frustrated at the way Wilshere cut through them, as well as with Reiss Nelson, who seemed almost unstoppable on the left. They were therefore making more aggressive challenges and this is what eventually led to the red-card incident.

The 25-year-old will now be suspended for three U23 matches, however this suspension doesn’t carry over to the first-team, so he could yet be involved in Sunday’s match against Liverpool at Anfield.
