Arsene Wenger believes that Arsenal have both good and bad memories from playing at Anfield and wants to create some more positive ones on Sunday.

Despite Arsenal not winning a single Premier League game at Anfield for five years, Wenger insists that the Gunners have ‘done well’ there and says that they hope to do so again.

“The mood is determined and focused and we are in preparation mode for our next game,” the boss said during his press conference on Thursday morning.
“We’ve had good memories and sometimes bad memories as well. It’s true that we’ve done well at Anfield in the past and we want to do well again.”

Arsenal haven’t beaten Liverpool at Anfield since 2012 when new signings Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla put the score at 2-0. Since then, while we’ve had some luck at the Emirates, in Merseyside it’s been a different story.

In fact, Arsenal have conceded 13 goals away to Liverpool since we last won there.

This is probably more to do with the Gunners’ bizarre form against bigger teams, particularly away from home. Remember back in 2013/14 when we shipped five against Liverpool, six against Chelsea and six against Manchester City? Yeah. Who could forget?

Last time we faced Liverpool, we lost 3-1, which wasn’t the worst outcome we’ve seen in recent years. Hopefully, with Alexis Sanchez back in the squad, the rest of the team will lift and we can actually get a result. However, I don’t think I know a single Gooner who genuinely believes we could win on Sunday.

For the time being, let’s distract ourselves with the time Arsenal beat Liverpool at the Emirates on the way to winning the FA Cup in 2014.
