Arsene Wenger praised Alexandre Lacazette after his impressive Premier League debut against Leicester City on Friday night.

After scoring twice in pre-season, Lacazette netted his first competitive goal for Arsenal against Leicester with his second touch of the game.

The 26-year-old has been getting better and better since signing for the Gunners from Lyon back in July for a reported £52m and, needless to say, Wenger’s pretty pleased with how well he’s progressing.

“Every game he is stronger,” Wenger said, reports the Daily Star. “Overall he is adapting slowly to the way we want to play.

“He’s a collective, intelligent player.”

While it would have been easy for Lacazette to score his first goal and then go to sleep for the rest of the clash – not that anyone could sleep through that seven-goal thriller – he didn’t. He kept fighting, chasing every ball, and busting a gut to give everything for the team.

The France international had a total of three shots, two of which were on target and one was blocked.

He also won three tackles and completed 19/21 passes.

Lacazette’s second-minute goal makes him the joint-fastest opening day goal-scorer in Premier League history.

He shares the record with former Gunner, Kevin Campbell, who scored against Manchester City at Highbury in 1994, and Faustino Asprilla, who scored for Newcastle against Sheffield Wednesday in 1997.

He’s the seventh Gunner to score on his debut.
