Alexis Sanchez has been linked with moves away from the club all summer, but Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger says he’s motivated to deliver for the Gunners.

With Alexis still not having committed himself to Arsenal, and with just a year remaining on his contract (bet you didn’t know that), there have been questions in the media about whether Alexis really wants to be in North London at all this season, and by extension, whether he’ll be bothered about bringing the club success if they force him to stay.

Recently Alexis allayed these fears somewhat, looking happy back in training with the club, and kissing the badge during the club’s members’ day. But with the season still not underway, and Alexis yet to play a game for the club, the questions are going to persist in Wenger’s press conferences.

Wenger himself doesn’t seem to feel that there will be any problem however. When asked if Alexis would give his all, Arsène responded: “Of course. Why not? It’s always in your interests, even if you have a short contract, to do well. And the kind of character he is. He is a winner.” (Quotes via Sky Sports)

Most Arsenal fans should have no problem believing this.

Whenever Alexis steps out onto the pitch you can see that he wants nothing other than to score and win the match. It’s the reason that so many supporters have taken the player to heart, and also the reason why some grew frustrated with him when he expressed his anger at the team’s bad form so publicly.

But Wenger thinks Alexis can help drive Arsenal to the title. The Gunners achieved 75 points last season, and Wenger is aiming for 10 more. Claiming that “with 10 points more, you are in there (the title race)”.

Arsenal fans will be hoping Wenger is right about Alexis, because an Alexis-Lacazette-Özil combination firing on all cylinders could certainly pick up 10 extra points across the season.
