While Valencia are reportedly looking at signing Gabriel this summer, the La Liga side will first need to sell Ezequiel Garay.

Former Zenit defender, Garay, could be on his way out of Valencia this summer with clubs from Russia and Italy allegedly interested.

While the La Liga club want to sign Gabriel, according to Deporte Valenciano, they won’t do so until they’ve sold Garay.

Valencia are reportedly willing to hand Arsenal £10m for Gabriel, who is still sidelined after injuring his cruciate knee ligament against Everton at the end of last season. Around the same amount that the Gunners paid Villarreal for the Brazilian back in 2015.

Gabriel worked under Villarreal boss, Marcelino García Toral, at his former club. Therefore, there’s already a link there.

The 26-year-old has two years left on his deal in north London and while he’s filled a gap when needed, he’s been pretty inconsistent.

The fiery South American has made a total of 64 appearances for Arsenal, 27 of which came last season as Per Mertesacker was out after having knee surgery in summer 2016.

While Gabriel hasn’t been one of the main Arsenal players linked with a move this summer until now, he’s not a squad member that Gooners would be particularly sorry to see leave.

They love his passion, granted, however, apart from the odd performance, he’s by no means one of the Gunners’ best centre-backs.

If Valencia can sign him and do hand Arsenal £10m, that’s money that could be put to good use.
