Southampton are adamant that Virgil van Dijk will not be sold in the coming days.

Van Dijk has been pushing to leave Southampton all summer but has yet been able to convince them to let him go. By this point, he’s pretty much tried everything. According to the Telegraph, Southampton are adamant that the Dutch defender will not be sold in the coming days despite the pressure they’re under.

With four days left of the transfer window, Southampton are bracing themselves for bids of £50m or more from the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea. Arsenal have also been linked, but apparently don’t see him as a viable transfer this summer and want to wait until a later window.

They’d better hope he’s still at Southampton by that point. Van Dijk handed in a transfer request at Southampton and released a public statement expressing his unhappiness at this situation. He feels that he should be allowed to move to a bigger club, but Southampton are holding him to the six year contract that he signed just last season.

Arsenal could greatly benefit from a commanding central defender given they currently sit 16th in the Premier League, having conceded eight goals in three games, while losing Gabriel and potentially Shkodran Mustafi.
