Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan says he would “change the DNA of Arsenal” if he were in the shoes of Gunners’ majority shareholder Stan Kroenke.

Jordan was asked about what he would’ve done in Kroenke’s situation this summer with Arsène Wenger’s contract at an end as it was after the FA Cup final.

The ex-Palace owner had this to say on Twitter about the situation: “I would have changed the DNA of #AFC like Wenger did post George Graham and Bruce Ricoh and gone for Diego Simeone”.

Diego Simeone is a very different style of manager to current boss Arsène Wenger. Simeone’s teams are built around the defence, the ability to hold onto a lead and hit opponents on the break. This was shown once again last season, as Atletico Madrid only conceded 27 league goals.

Arsène Wenger’s philosophy involves possession and wearing teams down, almost the opposite of Simeone’s football. Perhaps this is why the 49-year-old thinks he’d make such a good fit for the Gunners, as he would teach them a new way to play.

This is implied in his reference to George Graham. Graham had a strong defensive system, Wenger came in and added flair on the ball. Jordan thinks Simeone could do the same now but the other way around.
