Jean-Michael Seri’s move to Barcelona is now ‘90% complete’, according to reports.

The Ivorian midfielder is edging closer to a move to Barcelona after weeks of being linked with Arsenal. Isn’t that just typical?

According to Sport, Seri is close to complete a £36m move to Barcelona after negotiations between his agent and the club were stepped-up. The loss of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain has seemingly sped up the process as Barcelona, now £198m richer, could pay Nice what they wanted.

Arsenal have been linked with Seri all summer, with plenty of talk of him being an ideal replacement for Santi Cazorla in the midfielder. However, nothing serious developed. Arsenal were reportedly unwilling to pay Seri’s release clause and hoped for a cheaper deal.

If that’s the case, they waited too long and allowed Barcelona to come in for him. Seri is reportedly Barcelona’s back-up target after failing to sign Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool.

There’s also talk from The Sun that Seri’s arrival could push eventually Andres Iniesta out the door, which would certainly be an interesting signing for somebody, unlikely as it is.Arsenal will be disappointed to have lost out on such a talent, but the Gunners’ focus is trimming the squad this summer, rather than adding to it.
