Marseille manager Rudi Garcia has admitted Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has no desire to join the Ligue 1 side this summer, which hints OM could give up on their summer-long approach.

After spending the season largely as an impact substitute for Arsenal, Giroud’s future at the Emirates Stadium was in doubt, something he admitted himself this summer. And with then-Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette was heavily linked with Arsenal, clubs were trying to capitalise on Giroud’s uncertain future.

Marseille have long-targeted Giroud and were hoping to take advantage of his situation with the Londoners. The French giants were looking to invest heavily on star talent to try and challenge Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco for the Ligue 1 title this season.

However, manager Rudi Garcia spoke out about the failure to land the 30-year-old, saying: “I think he does not want to come to Marseille, Olivier Giroud. The problem is that,” reports the Daily Star.

“It can be understood, when you are the striker of the French team, that we are moving to Arsenal and that we will eventually change clubs, we may have other interests than OM.”

Giroud somewhat kept the door open on his future by not wholly committing to Arsenal while the likes of Everton, West Ham United and Marseille were linked with his signature. The centre-forward scored 12 goals in 11 Premier League starts last season and proved useful from the bench.

I think he’s likely to be an impact player in 2017/18 but looks to be staying at Arsenal regardless.
