Rob Holding truly cemented himself in Arsenal fans’ hearts back in May when he wound up Diego Costa during the FA Cup final, but what did he say?

Holding was seen pointing to his head and speaking animatedly during an altercation with controversial Chelsea striker, Costa, during the FA Cup final.

And while some eager-eyed Arsenal fans roughly figured out what he said by watching his lips, the man himself has now confirmed what he told the 28-year-old during that iconic moment.

“An expletive, then I just called him a nutter basically. Something’s not right in his head I don’t think,” claimed Holding during a Q&A event.

“I knew what he was going to play like, I knew he was going to try the mind games and try and throw me off my game, so I just didn’t rise to it and got back into position.

“I think he sort of tapped my chest so I think there was a little bit of respect there maybe, so he was alright.”

Of course, it wasn’t just this moment that made Arsenal fans love Holding.

The 21-year-old, who’d only signed from Bolton Wanderers the previous summer, had caught most Gooners’ attention long ago.

The centre-back is no-nonsense, mature, and good at his job. He’s also has the right attitude and genuinely seems to be honoured to wear red and white.

Whether you’re the best player in the world or not, most of the time, fans will take to you as long as you show them you care, which Holding has.

Plus, he’s pretty awesome at defending, which, you know, is good.

Last season, Holding made just 18 appearances for the first squad. However, six out of the nine times he featured in the Premier League came towards the end of the season when Arsene Wenger changed formation to 3-4-3. This gave the England u21 international more of a chance to show what he could do and, to be fair, he delivered.

The chances are, we’ll see more of Holding next season. Hopefully winding up more opposition players.
