Real Madrid midfielder, Marco Asensio, has reportedly called an ’emergency’ meeting with club bosses over Arsenal’s alleged interest as he believes this means he should get a pay rise.

Asensio has been linked with Arsenal since the beginning of the summer and is now allegedly set to hold talks with Real Madrid bosses over Arsene Wenger’s side’s apparent interest.

According to Spanish outlet, Diario Gol, the Gunners are willing to meet the 21-year-old’s £72m release clause and Asensio reckons that this means he deserves a better contract at Real. In fact, he supposedly wants £5.5m-a-year.

The Spain international apparently has no interest in actually leaving Real for Arsenal, or any of the teams he’s been linked with, he just wants more money and, if the reports are correct, is just using the Gunners as leverage.

Asensio only made 23 La Liga appearances last season and scored three goals.

He also scored against Juventus in the Champions League final and was impressive for Spain’s u21s at the u21 Euros this summer, netting a hat-trick against Macedonia and nabbing an assist against Italy.

He still has five years left on his current deal.

Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and Barcelona are all reportedly keen.
