The Premier League has made a couple of changes to their regulations, mostly focusing on superficial aspects of the game.

Kit

premier league shirt changes

The first change is to the name and number style on the back of shirts. The previous design was brought in for the 1997/98 season, but they’ve now announced that this will change for the new season, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Clubs will now have five different colours to choose from, in terms of the name and number combination and they’ve been pushed to choose whichever colour stands out the best in contrast to their kit.

The five colours available are black, navy, red, yellow and white.

For Arsenal’s kits, this probably won’t make a huge amount of difference.

The white numbers already in use fit well with their kits, and with the club’s general red and white colour scheme. The away and third kits would be the most likely to benefit from the change, but there’s no obvious choice that would fit in with the current designs. Probably yellow on the away shirt if they opt not to go for white. White would main the choice for the third kit.

Pitches

The other Premier League change is to do with pitches.

In previous seasons, some clubs, in particular Leicester, decided to get creative with their grass, making patterns on the pitch which get shared around on social media every weekend.

The Premier League has now put an end to this, in order to keep in line with UEFA pitch regulations.

This can only be a good thing for the game.

The patterns added nothing other than a pretty pre-match picture and if anything made officiating more difficult, with concentric circles where horizontal lines should have been for the assistant to judge offsides against.

Overall a decent set of updates to the regulations, even if there’s nothing particularly groundbreaking here.
