Alexis Sanchez finally returned to Arsenal training yesterday, after international duty and a late holiday granted to him by Arsene Wenger.

The Chilean was originally due back on Sunday, but his return was delayed due to illness. He’s now back, and Arsenal have made sure that everyone knows it.

Alexis trained alone in a light session as he began his preparations for the start of the season. He’ll want to be involved against Chelsea in the Community Shield and Leicester in the Premier League, but Arsene Wenger will assess his fitness beforehand.

Having played for Chile during the Confederations Cup and reaching the final of the tournament before being given a late holiday, the Arsenal boss will want to ensure he’s not putting too much physical demand on the player.

With new-boy Alexandre Lacazette an option to lead the line this coming season, while Mesut Ozil operates behind, Alexis’ absence might not be too damaging.

In the meantime, we can put to bed any speculation that the player was going to go on strike to force a move away from the club. For now, we can enjoy images of Alexis working as hard as ever and standing their in his hiked up shorts.
