Shkodran Mustafi has told Arsene Wenger he wants to join Inter Milan, according to reports.

The German defender wants to join Inter Milan after Arsenal made it clear that they’d be open to a sale.

That’s according to The S*n, who claim that Mustafi has already agreed personal teams with Inter.

The only issue now appears to be what kind of deal it will be. Inter would prefer a loan, while Arsenal want straight up cash.

Mustafi signed for Arsenal just last summer for £35m – the most Arsenal had ever spent on a defender.

He had started well and was ever-present in a 19-match unbeaten run during the first half of last season.

His form dipped with the rest of the team’s in the second half, but nobody thought he’d be one of the players allowed to leave the club this summer.

Until recently that everything seemed fine. Mustafi returned from Confederations Cup duty, trained for a few weeks and started against Stoke last weekend. It was normal service resumed.

Reports then came out that Inter were trying to sign him, and that he had “failed to bond” with his team mates.

While that all sounded like nonsense, Arsene Wenger didn’t rubbish the rumours as expected, and there seemed to be much more truth in them than everyone realised.

It will be interesting to see if Mustafi takes part in the game against Liverpool. If he’s left out during a time when Arsenal need defenders, it would certainly suggest that he’s off.
