Stephy Mavididi has made Keith Downing’s 21-man England u20 squad to face the Netherlands and Switzerland.

Mavididi has been given a call-up for England’s u20s for their upcoming games against the Netherlands and Switzerland and will join up with the rest of the squad after his loan side, Preston North End, have played Middlesbrough at the weekend.

England’s u20s face the Netherlands on 31 August and Switzerland on 4 September.

The 19-year-old hasn’t been called up for the u20s yet. However, he’s made five appearances for the u19s, scoring twice, one for the u18s and nine for the u17s, scoring once.

The striker has already featured twice for Preston North End this season, once in the League Cup and once in the Championship, and although he’s only played for a combined 55 minutes, it’s still something.

Last season, the teenager was on the bench for two of Arsenal’s League Cup games against Nottingham Forest and Southampton.

Mavididi’s loan spell at Charlton was cut short last season after he injured his hamstring so badly it required surgery.

It’s good to see him not only return fitness but continuing to get call-ups for his country.

Former Gunner, Chris Willock, who now players for Benfica, has also earned a call-up, as has 18-year-old forward, Josh Dasilva.
