Leeds United and Celtic are interested in signing Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom, according to latest reports.

Akpom has fallen well down the pecking order at Arsenal and looks to have no short-term future at the club. According to the Mirror, he’s interesting both Leeds and Celtic and a move away from Arsenal might not be far away.

Leeds could sign Akpom as a replacement for outgoing striker Chris Wood, who is close to sealing a move to Burnley. Celtic, meanwhile, are looking for cover for Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele.

Akpom has been around the Arsenal first team for a few years now, but has never really broken through. He’s played 69 games for various club on loan, but has scored just seven goals.

His most recent loan was with Brighton, where he made 10 appearances but failed to score once. For a striker so prolific at youth level, he’s had a difficult time adjusting to senior level football.

Now 21, it’d take something remarkable for him to get first-team opportunities at Arsenal. He wasn’t involved in the Gunners’ pre-season at all and seems to be have been usurped by Eddie Nketiah as the most exciting young striker at the club.

A move away seems like it’d be for the best.
