Arsenal defender Sead Kolašinac has showed academy prospect Reiss Nelson with praise, admitting being “very impressed” from what he’s seen from the teenager so far.

After spending pre-season with the English 17-year-old, new signing Sead Kolašinac had plenty of praise for Reiss, telling Arsenal Player: “You realise from his style of play that he’s really talented.

“He’s quick, a very strong dribbler and he has everything you need as an offensive player. He’s still young and has a lot to learn, also academically.

“It’s good for him to have more experienced players around who can take care of him, like Mesut, who plays in his position, or other players too. I’m very impressed by him.”

It’s no surprise that Kolašinac has identified Nelson’s talents already. The teenager showed everybody what he can do with the first-team in pre-season, putting in a number of good performances, in particular in the Emirates Cup.

The youngster started against Benfica and had one of the stand-out performances that day, topping it off with an assist as the Gunners won 5-2.

Following this up with his first competitive minutes, Nelson was brought off the bench at Wembley as Arsenal picked up the Community Shield against Chelsea.

Now back in the youth teams, Nelson is still shining as brightly as anyone else in the academy right now. In his two U23 matches played so far, Nelson has scored four goals, helping Arsenal to two wins.

More than that, he has always looked like the most dangerous player on the pitch. Only Eddie Nketiah comes close to keeping up, with his three goals so far. The two would be safe bets for more senior minutes at some stage this season, I believe.
