Martin Keown can’t wait to see Alexis and Lacazette in action together on the pitch, and says they can give Arsenal a real cutting edge.

Keown was talking in the Daily Mail ahead of the Gunners’ game against Liverpool on Sunday, and told the paper that he was excited to see them hopefully get a start together.

He said about the pair: “Players like these are why Arsène Wenger gets up in the morning. All his training sessions are geared for the team to be as creative as possible and he will want the attacking trio of Lacazette, Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to gel.

“[Alexis] is Arsenal’s first line of defence — as soon as the defenders have the ball, he is straight down their throats. Arsenal also have a ruthless finisher in Lacazette.”

“Although his goal was chalked off for offside, I was impressed with how he finished at Stoke. It reminded me of how Ian Wright used to do it.”

Lacazette hasn’t had too many chances since joining the Gunners, but has made something out of all of them so far. Unlucky not to have a goal against Stoke, he also scored his first chance against Leicester, and his other two chances that day indirectly led to Welbeck and Giroud scoring.

The problem is how deep he has had to drop, with Welbeck taking up the more advanced positions, and unfortunately Danny has been less than clinical.

Alexis commonly drops deep to try and beat players and create chances for the Gunners, so this could free up Lacazette to be more advanced. But if it doesn’t and he continues to drop deep, at least it will be Alexis ahead of him, who scored 30 goals last season for Arsenal.

We all know by now the danger that Alexis can bring in front of goal, and perhaps an underrated aspect of Lacazette’s game is his ability to create chances, making 48 for Lyon in Ligue 1 last season, so if the pair can link up well at Anfield it could be very dangerous for Liverpool.
