Ian Wright thinks Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be considering his options and whether the Emirates Stadium is the best place for him at this stage of his career.

The Arsenal legend admitted to Sky Sports via the Express that the Ox will be thinking he’s not where he should be at the age of 24. “I wouldn’t want Oxlade-Chamberlain to leave. But if I’m the Ox, then you’ve got to be thinking about it – he’s been there five years now,” he said.

“He’s still not got to where he should be. We still don’t know what his best position should be. He’s a talented player and he’s got to start kicking on in his career.”

The English international only has a year left on his current Arsenal deal, and like Mesut Özil, Alexis Sanchez and Jack Wilshere, the summer hasn’t brought any conclusion to that situation. None of the four have yet left the club, and yet none of them have officially committed their future to the Gunners either.

If Oxlade-Chamberlain still hasn’t found his best position with Arsenal, it’s not for the want of trying. Last season, he played eight different positions, according to Transfermarkt. If he had played significantly better than the competition in any of them, he surely would’ve nailed down a starting place.

But unfortunately, the only time this seemed to happen, at right wing-back towards the end of the season, he became injured. Although I have sympathy with the Ox being moved around so much, at this point it feels like he should be stamping his authority on a position in the team, not moving away in the hope that another club can do this for him.

Especially when Arsenal have invested so much in his development when he was inconsistent and never fully fit. I feel he still owes the Gunners.
