Arsenal legend Ian Wright has stood up to the football fans telling him that Alexandre Lacazette’s goal against Stoke City was offside.

In a video on Ian Wright’s Instagram page, he had this to say about the result at the weekend: “I love Arsenal. They was very unlucky with the referee, and the goal wasn’t offside, so f*** off everybody.”

Wright had a similar thing to say on Twitter, when he denied that the freeze frame chosen by BT Sport really showed that Lacazette was offside, as it seems to show the picture after Giroud had already kicked the ball, rather than as it leaves his foot.

Whether Wright is correct in his assessment or not, it’s good to see a pundit standing up for the Gunners for once. The team was certainly unlucky with the officiating, with Hector Bellerín being denied a penalty on multiple occasions.

However, that’s not to say that the Gunners did enough to get a win, as the defence was cut open too easily. If Bellerín had been given a penalty and the spot-kick was converted, it could’ve been a different game.

But who knows how that one would’ve turned out? Unfairly treated or not, Arsenal needed to do more. They next travel to Anfield face Liverpool in the Premier League which will be a big test.
