Olivier Giroud has said he could honour his contract with Arsenal for two more years amid transfer speculation.

With the new Premier League season just days away, it seems Olivier Giroud is gearing himself up for another season at Arsenal, despite a host of clubs been keen to procure his signature.

There was plenty of speculation this summer that Giroud could leave the club to play regularly else where, with Everton, West Ham, Marseille, Lyon and Borussia Dortmund all showing interest at various stages.

However, Giroud seems prepared to fight for his spot in the Arsenal team and could honour the remainder of his contract. “I’m an Arsenal player. I have a contract of two years still,” he said, reports the Metro.

Giroud will be 32 at the end of his contract, an age where it may be a lot more acceptable for a player to leave for free. Given Arsenal’s handling of players’ contracts in recent seasons, I wouldn’t expect the striker to sign a new deal at all this season.

He could well be reluctant to do so if he has another season on the bench. Giroud still has a big role to play this season as the “plan B” to Alexandre Lacazette. He came on for his French compatriot yesterday and went on to score the winning penalty for Arsenal.
