Arsenal legend, Gilberto Silva, believes that Alexis Sanchez should remain a Gunner.

Gilberto Silva believes that after Arsenal gave Alexis a chance when they signed him from Barcelona in 2014, the forward should stay with the Gunners, despite having under a year left on his current deal.

“I hope Sanchez stays because it would be hard for the club to lose such a great player, after all that he’s done in the last few years,” Gilberto told 888Sport [via Express].

“Arsenal gave Sanchez an opportunity, but of course on his side he has contributed a lot with his goals and ability.

“I hope that it ends well for both sides and that we keep hold of him, and it would also be a good decision for him because Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“Maybe he is considering things that we don’t know about, things from his point of view that he’s dealing with on a daily basis.”

Everything’s gone a bit quiet over the last week regarding Alexis’s future at Arsenal.

Until now, the Chilean’s potential move has been the talk of the town, with the 28-year-old being continually linked to Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain most recently.

Alexis was even said to be holding talks with the Ligue 1 giants in Paris over the Premier League’s opening weekend after watching Arsenal beat Leicester 4-3 at the Emirates alongside his girlfriend, Chilean actress, Mayte Rodriguez.

Arsene Wenger has always said that Alexis is staying put. Although he’s admitted that he’s no longer very optimist that the forward will extend his contract and even said that Arsenal’s board could go over his head instead of taking the financial risk of keeping him.

City were reportedly willing to fork out £60m. However, Arsenal are apparently unwilling to sell their best player to a rival… shocking.

What’s more, now that PSG have coughed up £198m for Neymar, do they really have a spare £50m+ to be throwing around?

As Gilberto says, I hope Alexis stays. But not at the detriment to the dressing room.
